With a little help from my friends
With a little help from my friends came about because nme wear releasing an album called ‘sergeant pepper knew my father ‘ which was a remake of the beatles ‘ sergeant ‘ pepper album. They wear looking for bands to record songs and we was asked to do it. It was all in aid of childline we decided it was a good thing to do because in the early days an awful lot of kids wear buying our records and we thought perhaps some of them might be effected by those problems. We recorded it in one day in Glasgow and it made a lot of money for childline. Because of the money we raised for childline they have been able to fund new phone lines throughout out Britain which weren’t there before.
Goodnight girl
When goodnight girl came out all hell broke loose again. It’s bizarre you never really know what’s round the corner. It was a testing time because the first couple of singles from high on the happy side did not do very well. Where once we’d always had top 20 singles here was a top 60. It was a difficult time you end up thinking should we have made that our first single. Should we have got a producer in you end up questioning everything but what can you do. I guess we bust our balls and did all the promotion work we could even things we didn’t want to do it might of been make or break who knows.
Love is all around
Love is all around was funded by polygram records when they were putting together the soundtrack for the movie. They thought it would be a good idea for wet wet wet to do a song we was given 3 choices a Barry manilow song , something else and love is all around. I was the only one who wanted to do the Barry manilow song because i wasn’t to keen on love is all around but i was laughed out of court. And have never been able to live it down. We recorded love is all around in Glasgow over a couple of days and because we were doing demos for our own studio album at the same time we had to stop and do love is all around. So we didn’t really spend that much time recording it not that we didn’t do it properly we just changed it a bit speeded it up and then left it. Then all these companies around Europe phones saying love is all around has got to be a single. We was a bit confused thinking do you really think so is it really that good then the film came out and boom 15 weeks at number 1.
